The Carlisle Fire Department provides Basic Life Support (B.L.S.) Level emergency medical services to all persons within the Town of Carlisle. Firefighters, certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Emergency Medical Technicians (E.M.T.'s), staff the ambulance (Carlisle 8)
On call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
On occasions in which Carlisle 8 is committed to one emergency call and another emergency call is received, an available ambulance from a neighboring town's fire department is requested to respond to provide patient transport to a local hospital. Likewise, Carlisle 8 is occasionally requested to respond out-of-town for emergencies (reciprocal mutual aid).
In addition to BLS skills, all Firefighter/E.M.T.'s are authorized to perform defibrillation using Automatic External Defibrillators (A.E.D.'s) on cardiac arrest patients, as well as administer the drug Epinephrine with an EpiPen Auto Injector to patients in anaphylaxis (severe allergic reactions).
Carlisle 10 is also equipped with medical and rescue equipment, including an A.E.D., and respond to medical/rescue related calls.
Emerson Hospital provides Advanced Life Support (A.L.S.) Level emergency medical services with certified Paramedics to supplement the Fire Department on request. http://www.emersonhospital.org/
