  2. Friends of the Carlisle Council on Aging and the Gleason Public Library 16th Annual Lecture Series

    October 30, 2019, 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM @ Gleason Library - Hollis Room

10/30 &11/6 RELIGION AND MYTHS All religions utilize myth. Whether in the form of an epic, such as the Mahabharata, or in the shorter forms, as the story of Job, a parable, such as the story of the raft, or even in non-linguistic symbols, such as the ritual use of food, myths are at play. Why? What is the relation between myth and ritual, myth and religion, or myth and the sacred? These lectures seek to unpack the meaning of myth, the function it plays in its various forms, and discover why the façade of myth cannot simply dropped in favor of the facts it attempts to convey. Jason Giannetti received a Master’s of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School, a Master’s of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University and Jurist Doctor degree from Boston College Law School.

    October 30, 2019, 9:45 AM - 11:45 AM @ Concord Carlisle High School

Do you like spending time with bright young adults? Are you up for an interesting discussion about poetry? Partners in Rhyme, an intergenerational poetry program now in its 9th year at CCHS, is looking for participants this Fall. Together with students in Ms. Hull's Freshman English class, we'll read evocative poems, share our personal reactions, and do some reflective writing in response. No writing experience is necessary, just a willingness to explore and exchange ideas. Call Patti Russo at (978) 314-8659 or the COA at (978) 371-2895 to register. The COA van will take you to and from CCHS, leaving from the Town Hall at 9:45am.
