Town of Carlisle DPW & MassDOT Advisory
Route 225 Bridge over the Concord River – Traffic Changes Effective Monday, August 25
The Town of Carlisle, in coordination with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), is sharing important updates regarding the Route 225 bridge between Bedford and Carlisle:
- One-Way Alternating Traffic: Starting Monday, August 25, MassDOT will implement alternating one-way traffic on the Route 225 bridge. Temporary traffic signals will be placed at both ends of the bridge to control flow.
- Reason for Change: A recent inspection revealed deterioration of the timber support piles on the southern portion of the bridge. To protect public safety, vehicle traffic is being shifted away from this section until repairs are complete.
- Duration: While no official completion date is set due to the permitting and river work involved, the project could take approximately 6–7 months once work begins.
- Traffic Impacts: Drivers should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution when traveling through the work zone. Appropriate signage and police details will be present to guide motorists. A message board will also be installed at the River Rd./Bedford Rd. intersection to notify drivers of the changes.
