Land Use and Sustainability Coordinator Sarah Wasserman, Town Administrator Ryan McLane and ESC co-chair Eric Balles attended the Commonwealth's announcement of the first communities to achieve Climate Leader status. Carlisle joins 19 other municipalities and is now eligible for more than $1 million to achieve the Town's sustainability goals.
To become a Climate Leader community, Carlisle met certain requirements including having an Environmental Sustainability Committee, publishing a carbon reduction plan that transitioned the Town away from on-site fossil fuel use in municipal buildings and fleets by 2050, passing a zero-emission-vehicle first policy, and adopting the Specialized Energy Code.
"Becoming one of the first Towns to achieve this status is a credit to Sarah, Eric, and the advocacy of the ESC and Select Board," Town Administrator Ryan McLane said. "We are thrilled that the community's commitment to sustainable practices will not only help improve the natural environment, but also grant Carlisle access to important grant funding to offset capital planning costs."
