The Town of Carlisle has been awarded $99,550 through the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s (MassDOT) Shared Streets and Spaces Program to support the Church Street Safety Improvement Project.
The project includes construction of a five-foot-wide sidewalk with curbing along the south side of Church Street, connecting School Street to Bedford Road. This segment will link key locations such as Carlisle Public School, community centers, athletic fields, and the Banta Davis recreation area. Additional improvements include ADA-compliant ramps, striped crosswalks, and pedestrian wayfinding signage.
Carlisle’s grant is part of $6.8 million in Shared Streets and Spaces funding awarded to 34 municipalities and two regional transit authorities across the Commonwealth. The program supports quick-build projects that improve safety, mobility, and accessibility.
Special recognition is due to the active and engaged Safety Committee for its instrumental role in developing the grant proposal.
