Transportation and Mobility

WALKING

Carlisle is blessed to have numerous trails throughout town and some which connect to neighboring towns. The ESC promotes connectivity between trails and pathways and advocates for walking as an active form of travel. The Trails Committee has Trail Maps and presents annual Trekker Awards for those that have walked all the trails in Carlisle. 

BIKES AND E-BIKES

On April 1st, 2023, The Vulnerable Road Users law came into effect which states that vehicle users need to give cyclists and pedestrians 4ft passing distance. Bicycles are also required to have red rear lights. 

Location of bike racks in town include Ferns Country Store, CPS School, Gleason Public Library and Town Hall. 

The Bruce Freeman Trail is a rail trail connecting the communities of Lowell, Chelmsford, Westford, Carlisle, Acton, Concord, and – eventually - Sudbury and Framingham. It follows the 25-mile route of the old New Haven Railroad Framingham & Lowell line. There is parking in North Acton across from 1000 Main St. (Rt. 27). 

ELECTRIC VEHICLES

There are Massachusetts and Federal rebates for the purchase of some electric and hybrid vehicles.

EV CHARGING

Six EV charging stations are available for charging electric vehicles at the Carlisle Public School. The EV stations are ChargePoint. You can check availability here

COAHS TRANSPORTATION

The Council on Aging and Human Services provide transportation options for residents over 60's and disabled residents and has discounted Lyft services. 

LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

The nearest Commuter MBTA rail stations are North Billerica, (Lowell Line), Concord Center, West Concord, and South Acton, (Fitchburg Line). Paid parking is available at all locations. You can click on the station you would like to take the train from to find out more information regarding parking. The 62 bus runs between Bedford Center and Alewife T station. (You can park at the Stop and Shop on Great Rd.)

SHARED RIDES 

There are various local options for shared rides to the area airports which are easily found by searching online.
