Heat pumps remain one of the most impactful ways that a Carlisle household can decarbonize. As described in the fact sheet below, Eversource has joined the state’s two other investor-owned utilities in having a heat pump rate approved by the Department of Public Utilities.
While this rate will lower the costs of electricity during the defined winter months (November-April), the relative costs of installing and operating a heat pump – compared to those of a home’s existing HVAC system - can vary significantly based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to:
- Current heating fuel
- Type, age, and efficiency of the heating system being replaced
- Type of heat pump installed, e.g., air source vs. ground source
- Existence of ductwork in the home
- Whether the heat pump will partially or fully displace the existing heating system
