Homeowners Electrical Permit Guidelines

Effective immediately a homeowner may apply for and receive a permit to do electrical work in their own home with the following documentation:

  1. A completed electrical permit application.
  2. A letter from the homeowner's Home Insurance Company stating that the insurance company is aware that the homeowner will be doing their own electrical wiring and that the homeowner is insured for any issues that may arise in conjunction with the electrical work.

If the electrical work does not conform to code then the homeowner would need to hire a licensed electrician who would then need to apply for their own electrical permit, pay an additional fee, bring the work to code, and then request an inspection.
